Please join Dr. Andrew Nestingen for “Nordic Noir: Past and Present” on February 26, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in Jackson Conference Center at Everett Community College.
Nordic Noir burst on the scene in 2009, with the translation into English of Stig Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its adaptation to film under the direction of David Fincher. Where did Nordic Noir come from? What is it? What is going on with it today? The discussion traces the history of crime fiction and cinema in the Nordic countries, offering closer analysis of specific examples.
Andrew Nestingen is professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington. He is author or editor of six books and numerous journal articles and special journal issues, including Scandinavian Crime Fiction (2011). He is currently working on a book titled The Nordic Turn, which discusses an upsurge of literature in English about the Nordic countries during the 2010s.
